Temporary Changes to Security Screening for Trail Flights

Due to limited unsecured gate access at the South Terminal at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) we have made the decision for our flights departing to Trail, BC (YZZ) to depart as a secured flight. This will require customers to clear security at the South Terminal when traveling to Trail.

As a result, we are making this change to ensure that we meet our commitment to get customers to their scheduled destination on time. By departing through security we are also able to maintain a morning and afternoon flight departure time to provide options to our customers traveling to the west Kootenays.

What can I bring in my carry-on baggage?
As there are restrictions on what a customer can and cannot bring in their carry-on baggage we advise customers to visit CATSA’s website for more information.

Do customers flying from Trail (YZZ) back to Vancouver (YVR) also have to go through security?
No. This change only effects customers going from Vancouver to Trail. Flights from Trail to Vancouver will continue to operate as an unsecured flight.

Do I need to arrive at the airport earlier than normal?
No. For all Pacific Coastal flights, whether secured or unsecured, we advise customers to arrive at the airport early enough to be checked-in 60 minutes prior to their scheduled departure time. We also advise customers to be present and available for boarding at their gate 30 minutes prior to their scheduled departure time. Our check-in counters will close 40 minutes ahead of schedule departure times.

Will I have to pay more to go through security?
No. Customers will not incur any additional fees for having to go through security.

Will my checked baggage go through security?
Yes. Customers flying from Vancouver to Trail will have their baggage screened by CATSA. To learn more about what is acceptable to place in your checked baggage please visit CATSA’s website.
