Unaccompanied Minors

Children travelling point-to-point as unaccompanied minors (UMs) are between the ages of 5-11 years.

Fee: $52.50 per direction.

In order to reserve point-to-point travel for unaccompanied minors (UMs) please call our Reservations Centre (1.800.663.2872) or contact your travel agent. Online booking is not allowed. Please review the following procedures & policies.

1.  A form must be filled out by those dropping off and picking up an unaccompanied minor (UM) . Please note that forms must be filled out each time travel occurs & must be complete prior to the UM boarding our aircraft; photocopies of previously used forms will not be accepted.

2. The individual picking up a child must have valid photo identification in order for Pacific Coastal Airlines to release the child – no exceptions please. The full name & contact information of this individual must be filled out on all forms and note that any individual not listed will not be able to pick up the unaccompanied child – no exceptions please. Names on forms of all parties must match names on official photo I.D. shown by all parties.

3.  Should an individual wish to send an unaccompanied minor (UM) on Pacific Coastal Airlines to a destination that requires a connection within our network then the individual will have to organize a responsible adult person to meet the child at the connecting point. The UM will be handed off to this responsible adult and this same adult must then check the UM in again & remain with the child until after the child’s connecting flight has departed. Please note: baggage will be tagged point to point only and a minimum connection time of one (1) hour must be provided; under no circumstances will the baggage be through tagged to the final destination. Two (2) separate reservations must be made with two (2) distinct separate sets of contact information. As well, two (2) separate sets of Unaccompanied Minor (UM) forms must be filled out, one (1) set from the originating base; one (1) set at the next check-in point. Official photo I.D. is mandatory as outlined in item 2.

4.  In the event an UM is travelling onward and connecting to another airline our staff will not escort the child on your behalf; a designated adult must meet the child arriving on our flight then take the child and his/her bags to the next airline. Official photo I.D. is mandatory as outlined in item 2.

Unaccompanied Minors connecting to Air Canada and other airlines

Air Canada does not accept UMs connecting to and from flights operated by other airlines; other airlines may have a similar policy. Please contact the airline in question directly for details and age restrictions.

If an UM is connecting to or from Air Canada, or any other airline, a responsible adult must meet the flight arrival & escort the child between the terminals/check-in counters. The adult must take the child to the respective check-in counter and complete all paperwork and check-in practices. Note this adult will not be a Pacific Coastal Airlines employee.

It will not be acceptable to escort the child to our shuttle bus and leave the child in the attendance of our driver. That request will be denied by our driver. The adult must assume full responsibility of the UM when assisting the child between the two terminals.

Other airlines have similar practices; please contact the airline in question for their procedures & policies.
